Textual Evidence

How does gravity act as an erosional force? Use Textual evidence from the reading to support your claim. You will need to cite the page number  where you found your information.

Gravity is the force of attraction that

pulls all objects toward Earth’s center. Other causes of erosion,

also called agents of erosion, are water, wind, and glaciers.

Deposition

Nicole said...

Such events often are triggered by heavy
rainfall. The muddy debris at the lower end of the slide comes
from material that once was further up the hillside.

Rocks and other materials, especially on steep slopes, are pulled toward the center of Earth by gravity. Steep slopes are more prone to mass movement whereas not steep slopes aren't as prone to the process. Gravity will pull the rocks down off the hill/mountain. These are some examples of gravity acting as an erosional force: slump, creep, rockfalls, rockslides, and mudslides.

Found on pages 4,5, and 6

Gravity acts like an erosional force by pulling down rocks or really steep slopes and making them into landslides or rockslides. Anything that is big has a mass movement for instance a huge rock on a tiny cliff would fall because the rock is huge and the gravity is pulling the rock down to the earth and when the rock falls it breaks which is called abrasion. The page I got the info is page 65 of chapter three,

Erosional Forces.

Gravity is a force that pushes stuff down to the earths surface. Thats why if a rock falls off a cliff, it won't hover over the edge. Gravity pulls it down!

Some evidence that I have that claims gravity is an agent of erosion is "Gravity is the force of attraction that pulls all objects toward Earth’s center.". "Earth has such a great mass that gravity is a major force of erosion and deposition." That is some textual evidence.

I think that gravity helps the erosional force because, if you were trying to get sand to move from one side to the other, you would need gravity. "large piles of sediment and rock can move downhill with devastating results." Pg:64
