More Depth of Rocks



Igneous rock forms from  lava or magma cooling to a solid state. How would a scientist be able to tell if a piece of igneous rock was formed from lava or magma?

It forms from magma.They would be able to tell from they way it is formed from lava it would look different then from being formed from magma.

They would tell if it is igneous rock is lava and magma if Igneous rock was if the rock was found out of a volcano eruption and it was still hot and goo its usually.

Scientist would know if it is a igneous rock because they should know what the rock cycle is if they are studying rocks. Also if they wanted to know if it is igneous rock or not they can break the rock open.

Scientist are able to determine if an igneous rock is formed from lava or magma by the sizes of the crystals in the rock. Magma cools slowing in the Earth and has time to grow larger crystals. Lava cools quickly on the surface and some rock may not have time to form crystals at all. There are common examples of both magma cooled rook called intrusive and lava cooled rock called extrusive igneous rock.

They can because lava-formed igneous rock has has crystals, and magma-formed igneous rock does not. Also, magma rock is formed underground, leaving it with no crystals, and lava rock is formed above when the volcano erupts

A scientist can determine if igneous rock was formed by lava/magma if by if it's darker it will be iron and if lighter crystals will be inside.

Magma is molten rock that flows beneath the earth's surface. Igneous rocks are formed by cooling magma.
The location of the formation of the rock, as well as how fast the magma cools will determine the type of igneous rock.
Intrusive rocks form from the cooling of magma deep beneath the earths surface. Since this occurs below the earth's surface, the magma will cool very slowly.
As magma cools, it will form crystals.
Intrusive rocks have larger crystals typically formed together to form the rock mass.
An example of an intrusive rock is granite.
When magma is above the earth's crust, it is known as lava.
Extrusive rocks form through very fast cooling of lava above the Earth's surface.
Extrusive rocks have very small, almost microscopic crystals. These are often described as fine grained rocks. You usually can't see these with the naked eye.The most common type of extrusive rock is basalt.

to tell tell the two apart is if its lava its above ground and magma if its underground of the other way around.

Scientist can find the difference because if the rock is made out of magma it would have large Crystals because it cooled very slowly, and if the rock was made out of lava it would be glassy because it cooled very quickly.

A scientist could tell if a rock was formed by magma or lava by the type of rock. Some types of rock form by magma intrusive. Some types of rock are formed by lava extrusive. A type of extrusive rock is obsidian. Extrusive rocks are smooth like glass. Intrusive rocks rocks sometimes have bubbles. This may be completely wrong I tried to do it with no research.

The difference between an Extrusivee and Intrusive igneous rock an Extruasive igneous rock cools very fast on the surface and is created by lava on the other hand an Intrusive igneous rock cools very slowly beneath the surface and is created by magma.

You can tell if it is magma or lava because the crystals will be bigger when is is made of magma and the crystals will be small if it is made of lava.

When magma pushes up through Earth's crust to the surface it is called lava. Both magma and lava cool and harden to form igneous rocks.

An Igneous rock is the product of cooled solidified magma/lava. As magma/lava cools it goes through the process of crystallization which turns it into an igneous rock. The amount of time it takes for an igneous rock to form depends on its location and its composition. There are two types of igneous rocks; Extrusive and Intrusive.

How to tell if an igneous rock was made by Lava/ Magma. The cooling of the air in the lava makes little tiny crystals that cant be seen by a naked eye. Obsidian is made by lava / magma, so typically if you see obsidian its made by the lava its self. The cooling of the rock below the surface of the earths erupts making other sorts of rocks with other stuff and crystal sized minerals with it.

Magma igneous is formed underground, and lava igneous is formed above ground. so you would probably find magma igneous underground and vise versa. Also lava has a bubble pattern and magma rock does not, it has cyrystals.

Cooled magma forms rock inside of the Earth's crust, while lava, which is magma that reaches the surface of the Earth, obviously would make rocks on the surface. Rocks made from magma are called intrusive igneous rocks, and rocks made from lava are called extrusive. Also, since cooling takes longer underground, they can tell by the size of the crystals within the rocks.
