Fossils in Rock

Fossils are usually found in sedimentary rock. Why do you think fossils usually form in sedimentary rock?

Because the rock in old.

Sedimentary rocks can contain fossils because, unlike most igneous and metamorphic rocks, they form at temperatures and pressures that do not destroy fossil remains. Dead organisms can become sediments which may, under the right conditions, become sedimentary rock.

Because animals think sedimentary rock is good to eat.

Lauren B. said...

I think it is because they get smushed into the layers. Then get built into the rock.

Leslie K said...

I think fossils form in sedimentary rock because old bones and leaves and stuff get trapped in sediments and they are trapped when the rocks get compacted and cemented.

Griffin M said...

Because the bones get compacted and cemented together with the sediments when they turn into sedimentary rock

Fossils are found only in sedimentary rocks because they have been around for years and usually cover fossils once they are dead and washed away. Most of the fossils tell of when the sediments were deposited.

Or die

Fossils usually form sedimentary rocks because Sedimentary rock is formed when exposure to rain, heat, wind, and cold breaks down existing rock into small particles of sand, silt, and clay. These particles are carried by streams and rivers into lakes or seas, where they eventually settle to the bottom. As layers of sediment build up over time, dead organisms may also sink to the bottom and become buried. If conditions are right, the remains may be kept intact and free from decay. The weight of layers of sediment gradually compress the lower later and, along with chemical activity, turns them into rock (fossils).

Sedimentary rock before it became rock was sediment which flowed in rivers and carried plant and even animal materials along with it to be deposited as sediment further down the river and this is also where a lot of plant life and animal life was also deposited. After millions of years with huge amounts of more sediment op top the lower sediment became, under pressure, sedimentary rock and this is where we will find a lot of fossils.

they get squashed underneath it and get built inside it

Because it gets smushed into layers.

Fosiols are made by lava or magma and over thousands of years that is so old you could add up 2 and more schools added with years of ages of teachers and students.

I think the fossils get smushed into the sedimentary rock.

Brendan S said...

I believe that fossils are usually found in sedimentary rock because, they get smushed into the layers and they get built into the rock.

Evan L said...

I think it is mainly formed in sedimentary rocks because they die in sedimentary rocks and their bones form in the sediments like clay

I believe that fossils are usually found in sedimentary rock because, they get smushed into the layers and they get built into the rock and thats what i think.

Ella T. said...

I think that fossils are usually found in sedimentary rock because fossils can be caught between all of the sediments and then they are all compacted together.

TylerW said...

They form in the rock Because the bones get compacted and cemented in the sediments and the sediments turn into sedimentary rock

bailey w said...

Because the rock is old.

Noah R said...

Think think they're mainly formed in sedimentary because the fossils get compacted and cemented with all of the other sediments.

Julia M said...

I think that fossils are in sedimentary rocks because the animals die in sediment, and then when a sedimentary rock is formed, there's fossils in there because they don't form with temperatures that would destroy the fossil.

Anonymous said...

They are found in sedimentary rock because the get killed by the heat and pressure than when
the sedimentary is made the fossils are compacts the fossil in.

Erin W said...

Fossils get mixed together with sediments and make sedimentary rocks.

Sydney G said...

Fossils are found only in sedimentary rocks, because sediments get cemented and compacted, over millions of years.

I think it is mainly formed in sedimentary rocks because, when they die, there bones compacts into the ground

Because of magma. Before it cools.

I think fossils are usually found in sedimentary rock because sedimentary rock is a compacting and cementing process. Those animals must have gotten compacted in the rock.

When a rocks is getting cemented together some bones and other particles and objects slip inside and get cemented inside the rocks

Sedimentary rocks are flat so things would get printed on the rock.

McKayla. M said...

Because all the sediments are compacted together and sometimes fish and bones are mixed in with the sediments

Abbie N said...

Because something gets stuck in between the layers of sediment and create a fossil.

cuz sedimentary rock hace layers n layers n layers

because igneous woud burn it and metamorphic would get rid of it when it changes
