Distance is the scalar value of how far an object has traveled regardless of direction. Displacement is the vector value of how far an object has been displaced, meaning how far is it from where it started. The better way to describe the difference between displacement and distance is here.Displacement is the directed line segment between initial and final position of a moving body. Distance is the total length of path traversed by the moving body irrespective of direction.

1.Distance is the measure of area which is between two points which is the point of origin or the starting point and ending point of a location.
1. Displacement is actually the distance a person is away from its actual point or the starting point.

2. Distance is a scalar quantity
2.Displacement is a vector quantity

3. Distance is just the magnitude of the interval.
3. Displacement is shortest interval connecting the initial and final points

4. displacement is denoted by s
4. distance is denoted by d

5.distance formula: speed*time
5.Displacement formula: s=vt

6. Distance is proportional to speed and time
6. displacement is associated with velocity of object

7. eg:Say you rode in a car that went 100 miles east and then 100 miles west. The distance you travelled will be 200 miles, right? That’s because you went 100 miles and then another 100 miles. Interesting thing, though, you wound up back where you started. Since you finished your trip 0 miles from where you started, you have a displacement of 0 miles.

Distance is how far an object travels. Displacement is how far out of place and object is or the overall change in the objects position.

Displacement is the distance between the starting point and the final location. Distance just means the distance covered to get there. So, if you walked 10 miles to the store and came back, your distance traveled is 20 miles, but your displacement is 0.

Distance is a scalar quantity that refers to "how much ground an object has covered" during its motion.
Displacement is a vector quantity that refers to "how far out of place an object is"; it is the object's overall change in position. http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/1DKin/Lesson-1/Distance-and-Displacement

Distance is how far an object travels. Displacement however, is how far out of place an object is. (The overall change in the objects position.) Like if I were to stick my finger in a glass of water the water would be displaced. But if I ran a mile that would be the distance that I ran.

Distance is measured to determine how long a path between two points is. The odometer in your car measures distance as you travel from one location to another. Displacement, however, measures the straight-line distance between your starting point and your ending point. Distance is always equal to or greater than displacement.

Distance and displacement are two quantities that may seem to mean the same thing yet have distinctly different definitions and meanings.

Distance is a scalar quantity that refers to "how much ground an object has covered" during its motion.
Displacement is a vector quantity that refers to "how far out of place an object is"; it is the object's overall change in position.

To test your understanding of this distinction, consider the motion depicted in the diagram below. A physics teacher walks 4 meters East, 2 meters South, 4 meters West, and finally 2 meters North.
