It was really cool. when we put viniger on the chalk it decomposed but when we did the same thing to the rock nothing happend

We put viniger, water, and coke on rocks and chalk and it went good.I liked that the chalk was getting destroyed so easily, i learned rocks are harder then they seem, mostly small ones

i loved the coke part

We learned about physical and chemical weathering. I really that it was an experament and i learned what vinegar can do to chalk.

When I went to the lab Sophia was my partner and me noticed that the coke made it sizzle. I liked working in the lab.

I liked watching the chalk disolve and breaking up the chalk. The rock didn't do anything that I could see. to slow!

When we went we used water, coke, and viniger and then we put it on rocks, and chalk. The chalk disalved while the rock did nothing.

it was fun . i thought something would explode . but it was pretty cool watching the chak decompose from vineger . the rock didnt do anything

I liked to see how the chalk could disintegrate so fast.

When I put the vinegar on the chalk , it was like , breaking it up into little tiny pieces. And when I put the vinegar on the rock , it didn't really do anything to it.None of the liquids seemed to effect the rock. And the water and coke didn't really look like they effected the chalk.

the lab today was fun and it went well. i liked how we got to explore with things. i learned the soda dies chalk.

I thought that the lab was really fun, but the vinager smelled really bad. I learned that vinager makes chalk chip and erode very, very quicklt.

When you put vinegar on chalk in dissolved and fizzed. Soda turned the chalk a different color and water didn't do anything. None of the liquids did anything to the rock. I liked that the chalk dissolved so fast when you put vinegar on it.

We started an noticed that the chalk was so fragile, that the vineger and soda ate the chalk up. The water had no effect.

With the granite we noticed that nothing really had an effect on it.

This lab was way more fun then the ones from last year.

We learned that physical and chemical weathering have different speeds of eroding things like the vinagar eroded faster on the chalk than it did the rock and the soda took longer on both so different chemicals erode different things faster than they do other things that get eroded

In the lab we learned about how different acids affect different objects. Like the soda and vinegar erode the chalk faster than the rock. I also think that the lab went well.
I liked it because it was different then being in the classroom.

My favorite part of the lab was when we thought nothing happened and then the vinegar started to eat away at the chalk. It was disappointing when the the Coke and water didn't do anything to the rock. I thought the vinegar might do something to the rock but it didn't

I thought the lab went well, and my favorite part was when we put the vinegar on the chalk. The chalk was destroyed, and I want to try to put some chalk in a glass full of vinegar, and see how fast it erodes.

Liz N. said...

I agree it was way more fun katie

When I put the vinegar on the chalk I started to fizz and bubble. I thought that was pretty cool. I also noticed that if you tried to erode the rock it would take a very long time to do what the chalk did in several minutes

Archer t said...

That was really fun and it was really cool to see the chalk look all gnarly and weird when the outer layer eroded away because of the acids.

Mason B said...

In my opinion the lab went well today. I liked experimenting, especially with the chalk. I learned that if you pour acids such as, vinegar or coke onto chalk it becomes clay-like and is much more fun to write with.

I thought the lab was really cool. Although the only thing that actually worked was the vinegar on the chalk. The water broke off tiny little pieces of the chalk. But it didn't do much. Also the coke managed to change the color of the chalk, but no more as far as I could see. As for the rock, all water did was wash the rock and make it all shiny and clean. The coke really had no effect at all on the rock, it seemed as though the coke bounced off of it because the coke didn't even change the color. As for the vinegar, it did about as much as the water did, so not much. But I bet if it was sitting there for a long period of time it would eventually be eroded by the vinegar... Another thing I noticed was that after the chalk chipped and fell into little shavings at the bottom , they seemed to congregate at the bottom of the chalk, as though it was sucking it back to it. I don't know if it was real or if my eyes were playing tricks on me, but I just found it very interesting. I thought that the vinegar and coke would explode when they came into contact. Why didn't they, or maybe I'm just thinking of the wrong material used to make that chemical reaction. But anyways it was really fun and I think we should definitely do it again.

It was a lot of fun! I loved going to the lab!!! It was really cool watching the chalk disintegrate and try to break the rock. I learned that vinegar is not just something that makes french fries taste even more yummy, it also can cause some serious damage to chalk. I hope we go to the lab again some time soon. It was such a fun way to learn something new! Don't get me wrong, science class is usually fun, but the lab made it even better than before!

I thought the lab was so much fun! last year we never did any labs so this was awesome. I liked using the chalk and putting vineger and coke on it. I thought the coke worked better than the vineger because it has carbonic acid in it and the vineger is just a very strong acid, there for I concluded that the coke was a more powerful erosional force than the vineger. I also noticed that when I picked up the chalk it had turned to clay. the water had little effect on the chalk though it did have some effect. when the chalk eroded i noticed that is came off in flakes instead of a type of fluid. carbonic acid had no effect on the granite though.
The water, vineger, and coke/

I enjoyed the lab. We used different things to weather a piece of chalk and a piece of granite, comparing the two.

i liked the lab. it was fun creative and cool. i liked the part when the vinigar melted the chalk

the lab went kinda well exept for all of the time we had to stop

I liked putting the vinager on the chalk cause it bubbled and it looked really cool! and what i learned is that chalk is easier to break then a rock. but i already knew that i just experianced!(: And we used chalk and granite.

i learned that vinger is a stronger acid then water

it was very fun and creative

It was fun.i learned that rock and can not be in a bowl of vinger and water you have to crush it and then it will be crushed,The chalk was really impostable to make it to dust the water did not turn to dust....

Lizzy G said...

i agree with cj

The science lab was fun we learned that when you take vineger or water it desinagrates chalk water desinigrates it slower than vineger.

it was kinda fun.I liked it when we dumped vineger on the chalk and it decomposed itself and when in did the same thing to the rock nothing happened it just sat there.

the lab we did today was if you could use vineger and water to break down rock and chalk and it could have gone better if people didn't goof around a lot but still it was fun for me

i like the chalk

how it went was bad because know one will be quite and that made it less fun that it should have been. what i learned was when you put vingear on chalk it dizzolves with little bubbles.

it was really fun, put vinegar on the piece of chalk & their was some goop which was very very nasty

I went to the lab with my partner Sabrina d.and we broke chalk and put it on the disk, put viniger on both the rock and the chalk it made the rock cleaner and it disolved the chalk. then when we did the same thing with the coke it did not do anything.

The lab today was fun. I learned that chalk breaks up easier than granite. Which means that the chalk is finer so it breaks easier. Also, I learned that vinegar effects chalk but not granite. The chalk (after a few seconds) starts to look like a white-ish, yellow log. Then when you put the Carbonic Acid(Coca-Cola) on it turns yellow-ish brown. The granite is very different because when you put the vinegar or Coca-Cola on it doesn`t affect it. So that means that there is very few ways something can be chemically weathered in a few seconds.

I learned how corosive vinegar is I thought that the carbonic acid would be far more corosive, but it seemed to have little effect compared to the vinegar. It went well. I liked watching the bubbles come off of the chalk in the vinegar.

The lab that we did today was very fun and a great learning experience, I especially liked that it was a very interactive lab. I learned that when you put the vinegar on the chalk when you haven't broken it there is almost no reaction, but when you put the vinegar on the inside where it's been broken the chalk erodes and turns into dust, same as when you put soda on it. When you put the soda or vinegar on the rock you get no reaction. The lab went well and I liked it very much
