I learned that a valley glacier will move as little as 1 inch per year.

I learned that in antartica the contenental glaciers are so thick that they can cover entire mountain ranges! I also learned that there is almost no other tipe of erosion stronger than a glacier.

What I already knew:glaciers move slow. two types valley glaciers, and continetal glaciers. made from snow and ice.

Kyle M1 said...

I already knew most of the info. but i did learn how some glaciers move only 1 inch in a year.

Noah O. said...

I already knew that most of the continental glaciers are in Antarctica. I also knew about the cirques, horns, and the valley glaciers. I DIDN'T know that they moved about 1 inch every year.

Brian B said...

In the movie i already new about valley glaciers and continental glaciers, but i learned about how long it takes for one to move down a mountain/a very long time.

I learned that vally glaicers can move as slow as 1 inch per year

in the movie they talked about valley glaciers. i already knew how things like cirques and horns are made.i learned that glaciers actually move very slow (as little as 1 inch per year) and bulldoze everything in its path, but altogether i knew most of what they talked about.

1. The movie was really good at explaining things and i learned that glaciers move.

Sarah L said...

I learned how glaciers are made by snow water and mushy putty stuff and i knew glaciers where in cold places and some not so cold.

Alexis F. said...

I learned that glaciers can move.

I learned that there actually is land under the continental glaciers that cover antarctica and continental glaciers can cover several mountains.

Kyle M2 said...

I already knew that valley glaciers leave behind grooves and striations. And I learned that if the snow piles high enough it makes the bottom layer of ice, melt.

sererreenna(: said...

i knew all of them mostly , but something i didn't really know was that glaciers move 1 inch per year!

Aleha C said...

i knew most of the stuff but i learned that a glacier moves about an inch a year.

molly m said...

I learned that glaciers melt.I also new that they are in antartica.I learned that not all the ice freezes so some of it turns into a type of clay and slids down the glacier.

emile w said...

I knew most of the stuff except that the bottom layer of the glacier turned into a pasty layer and that tis how the glacier moves

Nicole c. said...

I already knew about the cirques, and the continental glaciers. I didn't know that they moved 1 inch a year.

Dominique F. said...

i learned that if snow piles high that it compresses and makes ice then it starts to pile even more higher and then a small layer starts to melt then it slides and it moves 1 inch per year.

Rand N. said...

I learned most of the stuff but I learned about how a continetal glacier moves.

JordanF said...

i learned what a cirque is. I knew a glacier wasnt made of small houses. I kenw just about everything else.

Dale Said..... Said..... said...

I just learned that a valley glacier moves 1 inch per year

Stevey said...

I learned that antartica is is covered in glaciers. I also learned that after a while snow piles up and part turns to ice then if it builds up higher part turns to ice and part melts and turn into a putty like substance and the ice slips and moves about and inch every year.

Jake T. said...

1. I learned that antartica has a lot of glaciers. I also learned what a cirque is.
and how they move with the snow making ice and the ice melting to make the glacier move.

I all ready new most of the facts that were in the video but I didn't no that snow piles up and parts of it turn to ice.

Skye W said...

I knew most of what they said but some of it I WRONG because we didn't cover it as much like areat, ciricas, etc

Hannah N said...

I learned that Valley Glaciers move 1 inch per year!!! I also learned that when snow piles up underneth all the snow there's ice... I just thought Ice appears when there is water.

they move 1 inch per a year

SoPhIaA. said...

I didn't really learn anything from the video. Iv read it all in the science book before so nun of it is new only the fact that when snow piles up, it melts and gets clay like on the bottom and it make it slowly moves an inch per. year.

glaciers ice turns to putty like water

emily w said...

I learned that continental Glaciers are only on Antarctica. Also learned that snow piles up and the bottom layer turns to ice. Vally glaciers move 1 inch a year.

Maddi H said...

I learned that a bowl shaped area of erosion is called a cirque, and I learned how glaciers are made.

Liz N. said...

I already new that glaciers move and that they erode the lad as they move down the slope but i didn't know that they move as slow as 1 inch per year.

Grace B said...

I learned how glaciers are made, what a cirque is, and the difference between continental glaciers and valley glaciers.

Ian C said...

I already knew that glaciers move when pressure forms at the bottom of the glacier and makes it liquid, I didn't know that they can carve mountains

Nick M said...

I already new a lot of the stuff I saw in the video. One thing I didn't know was that glaciers don't move until the bottom layers melt into a putty like material.

Sara H said...

I already knew most of the information in the video but then i learned that glaciers move very slow. About an inch a year. I thought they moved a little faster than that.

Tanner M said...

I learned that a carved bowl shape that is at a peak of a mountain is called cirque, I also learned that a glacier is formed when snow piles up for many years and then starts sliding down a slope because of the compressed ice

matt c said...

glaciers can be really destructive and create new things at the same time. destructive because they tear down trees and they create stuff by carving out valleys

Lucas T said...

I already knew about when there is a lot of snow it melts the bottom layer into slush, but i didn't know about cirques making holes in mountains.

Archer t said...

I already knew that glaciers can carve mountains, cirques, arêtes, and horns, and can pick up anything in there path. I did not know that glaciers are so heavy that the lower snows turn into weird slushy, putty-like ice. I did hear though that they found a super compressed under ice lake, and there is so much pressure that if they aren't super careful, that if they dig into the lake without caution they could release the pressure from the lake, the water would explode through the ice and destroy the station.

Kasey G. said...

I knew most of the stuff in the video, but I did get a better understanding about how they form and begin to slide.

Tanner M said...

I already new that it takes a very long time to move down a slope

Will P said...

I learned that continental glaciers are moved by a puddy-like layer on the ground. But basically everything else in the video I knew.

PS: are there continental glaciers anywhere in the world besides Antarctica and maybe the North Pole?

Aaron R said...

The movie told me that continental glaciers are only found on Antartica and greenland though they used to cover most of north america and Europe. valley glaciers can be found all over the world but only on high moutain peaks. glaciers are formed by lots of snow piling up until the bottom layer becomes ice. as the snow keeps piling up the ice moves up toawreds the surface of the glacier and the bottom layer becomes a type of slush. then the snow slowly begins to move down hill

Erik C said...

I know most of this stuff from documentaries and books, but I have not ever heared of cirques. I also did not know that valley glaciers formed on the tops of mountains.

Mason B said...

I knew most of what was in the video except I learned that glaciers move up to only 1 inch per year and I didn't know exactly how glaciers were formed.

Aaron R said...

I knew everything in there though

Ronahn said...

1 = What I already knew.
2 = What I learned.

1. I knew that glaciers moved very slowly, sometimes less than 1 inch per year. I also knew that glaciers form where there is more gain per year the loss per year.

2. I learned that mountains in Colorado had snow for the entire year. I also learned that glaciers slide down slopes because of compressed ice.I learned that a carved bowl shape on the peak of a mountain is called a cirque.

I knew that glaciers moved as little as one inch per year, I knew that glaciers could do a lot of damage, I knew that they are pretty much the number 1 (one) erosional force, so all in all, the textbook and other activities taught way more then the video. :)

Connor P said...

I learned that valley glaciers move about AN INCH A YEAR! I also learned that the only places where there are continental glaciers are Greenland and Antarctica. I also learned that glaciers are formed by mass amounts of snow that builds up and then from the pressure of the weight, the snow turns to ice. Then it slowly melts and and the glacier starts to move.

Spencer P. Shields said...

I knew just about everything except for two things. I did not know that valley glaciers formed on top of frozen mountains. I thought they formed in a valley. I also didn't that there was a large circle of erosion called a cirque

Bearor, Katie :) said...

Documentaries and books are way more helpful then this video.

Bearor, Katie :) said...

To answer billiams question, yes

Isaiahp said...

The stuff I already knew about was when the bottom layer melts, it turns into slush. Glaciers are made of snow and ice. And when glacial moving begins, the bottom layer of snow becomes slippery. And Antarctica is covered with continental Glaciers. Glaciers erode land by picking up soil and dropping them to a new location. Glacial movement changes surface features. I didn't know that valley glaciers form on frozen mountain peaks.
