How fit is your Javelina?
One of the three conditions that must be met for natural selection is a difference in fitness. The different traits must help the individual organism survive and reproduce. How did a different trait help one cactus survive and reproduce? What evidence in the picture shows that the cactus is reproducing?

Where it grows flowers and another cactus shows up.
Julia~ Since the taller cactus had spikes no predators would eat it so it blossomed and was able to reproduce.

The cacti had spines which defend itself from predators, long enough for it to reproduce, which you can see in picture three, and
four.
It has spikes and picture three shows flowers growing on it.
A difference in fitness is needed, this allows natural selection to happen. The cactus with spikes on it was more fit, the spikes stopped the Javelina to not eat it. In the fourth image, you can see an example of reproduction. There is a small cactus starting to grow near the bottom of the cactus with spikes.
Where theres a new cactus and flowers.

It helped because it had spikes. In picture four there is a tiny cactus next to the big one.
one has needles that keeps predators away. you can tell its reproducing because of the flowers and the little cactus growing next to it
