Hooke was looking at cork under his microscope and and the little things he found looked like cells to him. Thats where we got the term cell. Issac Newton and Hooke were very big rivals. when Newton published a book about gravity, Hooke said he already knew that and he made sure people knew that. Also a fun fact is that after Hooke died, Newton became angry and stole all of Hooke's remaining things. They were found in the future, but never his portrait. so we never know what Robert Hooke lokked like to this day.
