You have a glass full of ice cubes and water. What happens when the ice melts? Does the glass of water overflow? If the glass of water does not overflow with the melting ice why then would sea levels rise with melting glaciers and arctic ice?

The glass of water would not overflow because ice takes up more space then the water it becomes when it melts. This is because ice has a lot of air in it. The sea ice therefore, would not be the sole cause of sea level rise.

The glass of water would not overflow because ice takes up more space then the water before it melts. This is because ice has air in it. The sea ice would not be the main cause of sea level rise.

It would not cause the ice is just taking up more space so when the ice melts it just gets smaller.

The glass would not overflow because ice takes up more space then water so there for it will not overflow.

The glass of water would not over flow because when you put ice in it the water raises and when the ice melts, the water will go down but then back up again because it melts.

The water would overflow because ice has a lot of air in it. So the sea ice would not be the cause of sea level rise.

The glass of water wouldn't overflow. It wouldn't overflow because the ice would have taken up more space when it was solid than when it was melted. This also happens because ice has a lot of air in it. So sea ice wouldn't wouldn't be the sole cause of sea levels rising.

The ice takes up most of the space and once the ice melts its like a regular cup of water.

The glass wouldn't over flow because ice takes up way more space than the water does, so it fills up the space that it took up in ice form. So, sea ice wouldn't be the reason for sea level rise.

The cup would not overflow because the volume of ice take up space in the water, so when the ice melts the volume the cup stays the same. I don't know about the sea though because there is other factors in seas.

Gab W. said...

the water doesn't overflow because the ice is still taking up the same amount of space, the land around the water is melting and so the ice is melting

The ice might look bigger but it takes the same amount of space

The glass wouldn't overflow because the ice takes up space where the water would be. The ice caps make the water level raise because some of the ice caps are above the water??

vincent said...

the cup would not over flow cause the ice in cup takes up more space as in the ocean the ice is well different

What Ethan said

when the ice melts it will in fact overflow, because when the ice melts it adds to the glass.

because you drink the glass of water but you don't drink sea water.

Cadence W. said...

yes because when water warms it expands

Jesse H. said...

The cup of water will not overflow from the ice due to the more space there is in the cup.

It will not over flow because the ice takes up most of the room. The sea levels will rise because the ocean is wide open and the glaciers aren't taking up andy of the space

The glass of water would not over flow because the ice isn't over the cup a lot.

In the glass of water the ice takes up more space then the water does so when it melts it doesn't overflow, so it wouldn't be the reason.

Brianna G said...

The glass of water would not overflow. It would not overflow because the ice would melt into water, and some of the water would evaporate. The same thing happens in the ocean, but the evaporated water goes back into the ocean.

Macey C said...

The glass would not overflow because when water freezes, it expands, becoming heavier. It makes the sea levels rise. But when the ice melts, there's no longer ice taking up space and making the levels higher. Therefore, the glass does not overflow.

Ethan R said...

it would not over flow cause the ice takes up more of the glass
