In the Civil War, medicine could not heal stomach wounds or chest wounds or anything fatal, but today's medicine can heal all of these, including fatal injuries that couldn't be cured in the Civil War.
Just like in the Civil War, our doctors have to amputate legs and arms if they are too injured. But our doctors today can fix many more injuries than back then.
During the Civil War, the medicine wasn't as advanced as it is today. Back then someone who was shot in the stomach would die, and there was nothing they could do. Today, if someone got shot in the stomach, there would be a small possibility that they would die because of how far we've come in medicine and technology.
In the civil war the inhaler was invented so that the doctors could use chloroform to put wounded solders to sleep without waisting it. And there is a lot more uses for inhalers today.
In the Civil war a lot more wounds were untreatable than today, such as stomach wounds, deep cuts, and most infections, and we still amputate wounds today as well as stitching up open wounds, and using a lot of medicine.
Medicine in during the Civil War were very different, in many ways. First, most medicine was fake; just water in a bottle sold by phony doctors. Next, if you got shot in certain places, like the stomach and vital organs, there was nothing that could be done to help you.
