Derby Time

Jade and Alexis went to the demolition derby to observe Newton's three laws of motion. As they watched their favorite drivers Shane,Jakob, and Alonzo smashed into each others cars. Jade and Alexis were able to observe all three of Newton's laws of motion at the Derby. Using physics vocabulary and what you have learned describe how Alexis and Jade may have seen examples of all three laws of motion.

They could see the mass of the car to see how the speed is. The momentum of the car in the video. You can also see the outside forces.

If a car is moving, it stays moving unless acted upon by another car. a car that gets wrecked stays still unless moved. the cars have constant mass because weight times acceleration = mass.
for every action, there is a reaction. so if a car crashes into another car, the 1st car applies force to the 2nd car, enabling it to move backwards.

you could see cars bumping into each other which is Newton third law. When the cars speed up and that shows acceleration.

They would see cars smashing into each other.

How they saw examples of all three of Newton's Laws was because the laws are an object in motion stays in motion and an object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced force, force equals mass x acceleration and every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

they would have seen:newton's third law where when 1 crashes they get a little bump to.,they would have seen that all the motion goes right into the earth.they would observe motions.

When the cars smash into each other, it is using Newton's Third Law when they hit each other. They are using friction when their tires squeal against the ground.

If a car is not moveing when a car hits it it will be moveing this is newtons first law.

Once the car hits the other car and then hits the wall the momenta goes into the walls then into the car and in the Earth

they use firtion in newtons thrid law whenthe bump into each other

Jade and Alexis say that the cars used Force to crash into each other.

Anonymous said...

The cars stay in motion until stopped by the force of another car and the action of the cars are causing a reaction when they hit each other and the momentum travels from one car to the other and then eventualy into the ground when they run into eacother.

They might have saw a car crashing into the other one and one of the other cars goes backwards.

When there wheels turn on the ground it causes friction. When the cars hit each other it uses force. There cars accelerate to get to one place to another.

While They keep on moving the accelerate and when they hit someone they stop giving the person they hit a opposite reaction.

They saw speed, force, mass, velocity and so on.

They see 3rd law because when the cars hit each other they have a reaction.

Kiara M. said...

For Newton's first law, the cars will stay in motion unless they were stopped. For Newton's Second law, the cars are accelerating by going faster, slowing down, and changing direction. For Newton's third law, the cars are hitting each other and making the other cars go backwards.

when one car pushes another into the wall it shows the 1st law of motion, the object in motion come to rest when another force hits it that force being the wall

Brooke Carman said...

Newton's first law was demonstrated when the cars were just sitting there. They would stay that way until another car rammed into the first one, making it move against the 2nd car's force.

I can't think of one for the 2nd and third law.

Liz L. said...

They used the 3rd law because they used friction to spin the tires, and they used force to run into each other.

Brooke DeCapua said...

Jade and Alexis saw that the cars keep on going un till another car came and stopped them. Th saw how the cars were accelerating because they were going faster, slower also changing direction. Then finally they saw how once the cars hit each other one of the 2 or more cars would go backwards.

Kevin D. said...

Alexis and jade saw when a car hit another car it would show the first law, Because The car was in motion and when it was hit by another force It was no longer in motion.

Sameena F. said...

Alexis and Jade saw all three of Newton's laws. When the cars weren't even moving and not crashing into each other yet, that was the first law. The third law was seen of when two cars would crash into each other, and they would go the opposite way. (I can't think of one for the second one.)

Abi.D said...

The cars smash into each other using friction and Newton's Third Law when they hit each other.

Lewin P. said...

There was a reaction when they hit each other(Three). The cars that weren't in motion were in inertia(one). And the cars accelerated(2).

Anonymous said...

An example for the First Law would be when the cars are at rest, they stay at rest until they are rammed into by an accelerating car, which brings on the Second Law. The Second Law states that mass and acceleration create force, and since they can't really add on more mass at the time, they have to accelerate to smash into another driver. Finally the Third Law states that momentum is carried between objects because energy can only be transferred, and the cars hit other cars carrying the momentum between cars.

Anthony B said...

This describes Newton's first law because when a car is stopped and you hit it inertia is involved. Newton's second law is shown when a car speeds up it uses acceleration and mass to equal force. Newton's third law is show when two cars have a head on collision and bounce off of each other.

Hannah M said...

The cars smashed into each other and moved, the third law and the first law is when they were driving around but not crashing.

The cars crash into other cars which creates an equal and an opposite reaction.

The cars are smashing into each other and creating an equal and opposite reaction, they are staying in motion since there is constant force on them, acceleration.

When they crash in to each other and shows the equal action and reaction.

I got this from Shaun B.

When the cars crashed into each other it showed reaction forces. The gravity kept the cars on the ground when they crashed and whenever the cars came to rest when they were broken, they stayed at rest. Last the cars gathered momentum and built up speed to actually crash into each other.

Gravity was Acting on the cars to keep them on the ground, when they crashed it showed reaction to forces smashing in to each other, and they accelerated to gain momentum to make their net force larger, so when they hit, it would make an impact.

When the cars hit one goes away from it with force. When they are in the mud its harder for them to move. The cars speed up to hit each other
