How does gravity work as an erosional force?  Please give specific examples.

Wind, water, and ice are the three agents of erosion, or the carrying away of rock, sediment, and soil. Erosion is distinguished from weathering — the physical or chemical breakdown of the minerals in rock. However, weathering and erosion can happen simultaneously. Erosion is a natural process, though it is often increased by humans’ use of the land. Deforestation, overgrazing, construction, and road building often expose soil and sediments and lead to increased erosion.

How gravity works as an erosion force are abrasion and deflation.

It causes materials to slide down a slanted surface and can cause erosion.

An example of erosional force is mudslide

When rocks are loose and moist gravity pulls it down causing mudslides or an avalanche of rocks.

gravity works as a erosional force because it can over time pull or wear away at mountains or rocks.

Gravity can create rockslides, and rocks slides are kind of like erosion.

Lexi Harmon said...

Kiara M said...

Gravity works as erosional force because if a rock falls down a cliff, it could hit more rocks along the way, breaking off pieces of that rock.

Jack B said...

Gravity makes the rain fall to the ground on to the rock and then erodes it.

A gravitational pull of rocks down a slope or hill causing a rock fall.

Paige M. said...

Well gravity causes waves, and waves may erode rocks. Also, rocks fall because of gravity. Pummeling other rocks.

Gravity makes all the weight of rocks compact together forming bigger rocks!

Wayne Twombly said...

Gravity can make it so drops of water drips on rock denigrates it or when the wind clashes and clangs against rocks can bring it the the ocean and with out gravity there would not be any sedimentary rock or sand so all of the and and sedimentary rocks are gone so it would be water then lava core.

Gravity can force a rock down a hill and cause it to cause a landslide, breaking rocks.

Anthony B said...

Gravity works as an erosional force because gravity can pull down rocks and create rockslides.

Richie P. said...

Gravity affects erosion because if something is on a steep hill it will fall down due to gravity

Ashley M said...

rockfall and rockslide are gravity based

Gravity can be erosion by making rocks get in rockslides and rock falls.

DYLAN N said...

When the gravity pulls down on the rock they fall and brake and then dirt falls into the rocks hole.

Gravity can be a weight. That can cause a rockslide. I wasn't here yesterday so i don't really know.

Nate P said...

Rocks can use gravity to pull down the rock, if and when it hits another rock it will weaken or break the rock creating mechanical weathering.

Gravity can break rock when they fall from a height. When they fall they will most likely break and chip.

Hannah M said...

Rocks are pulled down by gravity, when it is getting pulled down sometimes it hits other sediments on the way down or hits something when it gets to the ground.

Nadia McElroy said...

Gravity helps erosion because it takes down things like rocks off cliffs.

Emily P said...

it can make rocks fall off of cliffs and they most likley would break or fall apart

gravity helps erosion because it moves things like rocks

_Aaron_Peter_Mills_ said...

gravity helps erosion because if there is dangerous rocks on cliffs gravity helps erosion push the rock off.

Hayden Wilkins said...

The key to erosion is something called "fluid flow." Water, air, and even ice are fluids because they tend to flow from one place to another due to the force of gravity. Of the three, liquid water is the most common agent of erosion because there's so much of it on the surface of the Earth.

Gravity works because if rocks are flying around they could hurt someone. So Gravity holds the rocks down.
