Shore Lines

Why are some shore lines rocky and others have sandy beaches

Other places (like Maine) had more mountains that erode down to boulders that fall on the beach. But other beaches didn't have mountains.

It depends on what was there before the water started to flow there.

Because of wind erosion and how sand it is.

The beaches that are rocky are not that old because they have large rocks that have not been broken down and the beaches that sandy are older and have been broken down more.

Rand N. said...

Because the sand is eroded rock and the beaches that have rock are still young and still need to be eroded.

If there are more mountains then there will be rockier shores.

Brian B said...

Some are rocky because the rocks were under water but over time the water level decreased and the same with the beach.

the rocks are younger so that it will take some time for them to break down

Some places has rocky shores because the water picks up the rocks and brings them on to the shores and the other beaches dont have that many big rocks.

The ones with more sand is older so the rocks break down.

If there are mountians then the shoreline is rockier then the beaches

Some shorelines are rocky, and some shorelines are sandy because if their is rock and the water erodes it it bring the rock on the shoreline. If their was sand before the water then the water brings in sand to the shoreline.

because the rocky ones may not have a strong water erosion. also, the rocky ones may be in places like maine, where the rocks are continuously being pushed up from the ground.

because some beaches were eroded differentlly.

Places with more mountains have rockier shores because parts of the mountains erode.

Probably because of location and amount of erosion.

WIND EROSION....

Because some beaches have like mountains and stuff around them so rocks fall of of them and on to the beaches and other beeches that dont have rocky mountins near them are smooth.

Waves can erode rock so like in sand things there is probably more waves and where it is rock less waves.

Some beaches are younger than others so they are more rocky because the water has not hit them alot.

Because the sand is eroded rock and the beaches that have rock are still young and still need to be eroded.

Some are rocky because the rocks were underneath the water but over a long period of time the water level decreased and the same with the beach.

some beaches are rocky because rocks may erode and fall down on the beach the rocks may also come from the ocean. others may not have lots of rock around it and will not be rocky.

Water and wind erosion makes the shore softer or harder.

Other places, like Maine have more mountains that erode onto the beach, so the farther the mountains the less rocks there will be on the beach.

Some shores are rocky because maybe the waves aren't strong enough to erode the rock into sand.
Some may be sandy because the waves could be stronger and erode the rock better.

I think that some beaches are more sandy because there is an estuary nearby that deposits fine material onto the shores.

I think the that the tides and the wind have a lot to do with the rockiness of it.

Stronger waves and longer periods of time to erode rocks into sand causes finer sand.

Some shore lines are rocky and others are sandy because some shore lines haven't had time to be eroded by the ocean or body of water that is eroding the rocks. Sand is created by rocks eroded by a body of water crashing against it, so eventually, it turns into a cute little sandy beach. Other shores have not had enough time to become cute and soft like sand, so that's why there are rocky shores, and sandy shores.

Rocky shorelines are probably rocky because they are older. Sandy shorelines are sandy because they are younger.

Some beaches are older and get different tides lengths and intensities.
