levees and dams are used to sow down the water and then stop it for flooding over the shore.

a river floods because of rain water and sudden increases in water levels.

Alexis F. said...

When there is like a rain storm it will cause a runoff and it will flow into a river and it will cause to flood if there is to much water in it.

they stop the water from flooding the shore/ground.
and if they dont have dams or levee

1. A river overflows when it rains to much and the water starts to overflow onto the land.

2. Levees help prevent flooding and a dam works like a barrier.

Heavy rains cause river floods. Dams help to control the water flow, and levees are built to control the water height so that they don't flood the roads.

When things( Damns, dirt walls, mud walls...)in front of water stopping it breaks the water from the river soon flows into town, village, city ect.

floods occur when a lot of rain falls to the ground and the rivers and streams overflow.

people use dams and levees to stop the water from overflowing into the cities. dams stop a lot of water at once in one area. the dams can do many different things, but the purpose is the same, to stop water from going somewhere that people don't want it to go. levees are structures that stop water in one place, and they are sometimes natural. they are made of dirt usually, and they stop the water, much like a dam.

Rivers flood when the water overflows the bank. Dams are made to stop the water from flooding and the water rises till it stops.

What causes a river to flood is when the water level gets high because of rain and storms and then it gets higher then the dam and floods over.Dams and levees are a structure that keeps water in a place. They relate to flooding because if they burst or the water level gets to high the water flows over them.

It could get clogged by leaves, sticks, or beavers.

A river floods when the dam like gets stuck and nothing can go by and then it over floods

A lot of rain water can flood a river. A dam is something that blocks the water from flowing.A levees is a embankment built to prevent overflow of a river.

it could get clogged mostly by sticks and maybe animals leaves and grass and stuff like that.

alot of rain and sticks and mud floods the river alot.

When it rains to much the water goes over the bank and floods the place.

Camille D said...

If the river floods too much the dam would over flow.

Oja, Noah said...

Heavy rain causes the water to overflow which can brake the levee and the dam altogether.

emile w said...

if there were no dams the water levels in rivers would be lower and water would flow faster but when it floods it will not go as high and places will not flood. .

Nicole c. said...

Rain water can flood a river and he water can overflow other the bank. A dam is a barrier constructed to hold back water and raise its level. A levee is an embankment to build prevent the overflow of a river.

Rain water can flood and the dams can break and so can the walls.

Rivers flood because of heavy rain and streams going in too fast. Also dams help stopp flooding because it only lets in a bit at a time.

I beleive heavy rain

Maddie C said...

Rivers flood because of rain and rivers flowing fast. dams help stop the flooding by holding back the water and only letting a little bit of water out at a time.

Leaves and dams relate to flooding because dams block the water from getting somewhere and if there is to much water behind a dam it could callopse. Leaves can block where water is sopose to go.

Juila M said...

In less developed countries, humans are particularly sensitive to flood casualties because of high population density, absence of zoning regulations, lack of flood control, and lack of emergency response infrastructure and early warning systems.

A river might flood because of to much rain water or melting snow. Dams connect to flooding because they are what attempts to prevent the river from flooding.

Skye W said...

The dams are a big part of flooding because they stop water from gettoing through to the other side.

Stevey A said...

A flood happens when it rains and the water goes over a damn or over a leeve and goes into the town.

emily w said...

The levees are related to flooding because rain adds more water to the river and the river flows very fast so the river will flood

aj b said...

when a rivers dam breaks the river then overfills and causes floods if a dam has a levee it can circulate water properly into rivers to prevent to much or not enough water

Maddi H said...

rain makes the water rise over the dirt and grass and land.

The flood happens when it rains alot and the water goes over a dam and floods the town.

Grace B said...

the flood happens when it goes over the dams.

rivers over flow when the water gets to high

water over leaks when levees crack or break

Cameron T. said...

Floods happen when it rains and and the water from mountains washes down. As it does it pools up and raises the water level derastically. Because of dams and levees, the water cannot flow in its normal path. So the water pools up until it flows over the dam or levee.

Sara H said...

Dam- A barrier that impounds water or underground streams.
Levee- An embankment built to prevent the overflow of a river.

They both relate to flooding because they help prevent it from happening.

Ian C. said...

A dam is a structer that is created in a river or like in order to stop the water from flowing and it creates a big lake full of water.
A levee is a structer that keeps the water from flooding the nearby towns/houses

Erik C said...

A river overflows when it rains a lot. Dams and levees stop water from going into a certain area. If a dam or levee bursts water can flood an area.

Nick M. said...

Rain and extra water causes floods. Dams and levees would effect flooding because on one side of a dam, the water builds up, which could cause flooding on one side. A dam is a wall of stone, concrete, or wood, that blocks up water and keeps it on one side. A levee is a man made slope or wall that confines water and keeps it from flooding the surrounding area.

Ronahn said...

A flood happens when the is excess water in lakes and other bodies of water. A flood can happen when there is excess rain.
Dams and Leeves can control water and prevent flooding. A Leeve can control water flow and distribute it.

Lucas T said...

When too much rainwater fills a dam it overflows and floods a town. Dams and leeves are related to flooding because they all cause floods.

Aaron R said...

I think that the floods are caused by a lot of rain and water flowing into the river. A dam is something that holds water back because the river slopes. a levee is a hill full of water.

Connor P said...

Large amounts of rain can cause flooding in the rivers. Dams lower the water level to prevent flow, but they can also help make a lake

Archer t said...

A flood is caused by lots of water from rain and then the water overflows and goes all the land. A levee is an embankment that protects low-lying areas from flooding. A dam is a barrier placed in a river to either generate electricity, create a lake, or to control floods from traveling down the river.

Holly J said...

Rivers flood when there is to much water. Like when there is really big storm and they sometimes they flood in the spring because all the snow is melting.

Sarah M said...

A flood happens when there is a heavy amount of rain has fallen. A dam and levee both help keep flooding down by containing the water.

Isaiahp said...

A dam is a barrier that impounds water or underground streams. a Levee is an elongated naturally occurring ridge or artificially constructed fill or wall, which regulates water levels. The causes of floods are too much water that goes into a lake and starts to flow on ground levels. Levees and dams relate to flooding because they both help stop floods.

Holly J said...

Dams are related to floods because the dam holds back water.

Kasey G. said...

A mass amount of rain or of melting snow can cause a river to flood. A levee is an embankment that is built to help prevent flooding while a dam is a barrier, usually made out of concrete, hold back water and raise the water level. Dams can be used to create energy or simply as a water supply. Dams are related to flooding because if it rains a lot or the snow melts really fast and they don't open up the dam, the river can flood. Levees are related to flooding because they help prevent it by making the ground level along the bank higher.

Liz N. :) said...

A flood happens when a lot of water is in one place, it doesn't just have to be a heavy rainfall. So a dam a levee both keep a lot of water in one place but they control the water flow so it wont flood.

Gracie N(: said...

A levee and dam help keep flooding down by containing water.

Mason B said...

Floods are caused when the water table rises and the body of water cannot contain the amount of water in it. Dams help control water.

Tanner McClure said...

If it rains a lot in a period of time it causes flood and also runoff is possible... dams and levees help prevent from floods happening.

Dams are floods, it holds back water which if the dam breaks a flood will occur because if the dam is weak it won't hold for very long but if the dam is supported w/ more wood the stronger it shall be.

Well they are made to hold lots of water so everything will not flood over the surface.
