Science in Salem

Thinking about the trip to Salem. How can we connect Science in Salem?

Watch the video

Do you think science could have saved the Salem from the witch trials ?

What else in on the Salem trip might relate to science in general or specifically what we have studied so far this year?

I think that obviously science could have saved the Salem Witch Trials from ever happening. I mean, with science, we can prove what, "Devil marks" really are, just. And also science can now prove that witchcraft isn't real. But you really don't even need science to tell you that witch craft isn't real. All you need is a small dose of reality... If only they knew how to put a small dose of reality in a vaccine.

On to the last thing I know Mr. Andreasen said something about a ship that is always docked there when we go down. So maybe we will learn about how the ocean affects the ship in terms of erosion.

We could connect science and salem together, we could connect by what is going on in there brain.

i think science could of saved salem

i think science could maybe have something to do with the witch trials because they can prove that the witch trials are actually real.

There is also weather at Salem. Yes maybe it could have. There might be Erosion on the sidewalks and roads.

We can connect science to salem by what they eat and where they grow there plants.I think that science couldn't of saved salem because they wouldn't of believed that something could of saved them.We could look for creep and erosion on the trip and look for caves etc...

Science could be useful in this time because the ergot was found on the rye and it can cause the same symptoms as the 'afflicted' girls and Mrs. Putnum. If they had known this back then than 19 people would not have been needlessly hanged.
Mr A said there was sumthin about a ship so when we get there maybe we can learn how the tide can erode the ship and how the wind can erode the sail if it has one.

I think that science would have saved the "witches" from the witch trials. They could have experimented on the witches and tested to see what was wrong with them.
From what we have learned I think that most of the places where the "Witches" were buried would have eroded by now and exposed the coffins.

Oja, Noah said...

I think science could have saved Salem because they could have proved that the most of the people accused were innocent and the girls were most likely faking it. They also would have known about the stuff on the wheat.

I think we will learn why or how the stuff on the wheat grew.

I do think that science could help with the salem witch trials because of weathering.

well even if they had a medicine for the plant that caused all those things happening people wouldnt know thats what there takeing so they wouldnt give them the medicine.

Alexis F. said...

I think that it is because there were over 100 killed and only 19 were witch's and there was a part of rice that caused spasems and other things that made you react to it in bad ways....

Science would have saved Salem if the knew about fungus they wouldn't have had the side affects of the fungus and they wouldn't have blamed people for being witches. and Will p the ship sunk at sea last year so we will not learn about water erosion and the ocean affects on the ship sorry.

Aleha C :D said...

i don't think that science could save Salem, because, science can't stop people from doing witchcraft, and science cant make people not believe in their beliefs.also science cant tell if the victims are faking or not.

I think science could have saved Salem town and that the the water aquifers where dry so that they had a bad source of water

I think that science definitely could have helped control hysteria, find out the causes, and keep everything from happening.

I think that maybe science can connect to what they grow then eat. Maybe science could of saved salem because maybe if they beileve that it could save them they might not react the way they did and calm down and say that nothing is going on and that they were saved. Maybe on the trip we could look for erosion and maybe creep.

kaylee m. said...

1.We could connect science to Salem because the "witches" made potions and stuff, just like in science we make potions and mix it with another chemical and it makes a reaction.

2. I think science could save the Salem witch trials because with science you can prove witches are real.

3. In Salem we might see creep or erosion.

Serena M(: said...

science could have saved salem if they ever would have knew about it. and people most likely wouldnt be accused of being witches.

I think science saved the Salem witch trials because they found out what was in the plant the the girls were eating. In the plant was something called Ergot which make the girls have Muscle Spasms, Delusions, Seizures and Contortions, Which are the same exact symptoms that the girls had. I think we could connect Salem to science because of the Ergot.

Camille D said...

I think You can connect science to this because of the ergot, a type of food poisoning that caused the reported symtoms, muscle spasms, delusions, seizures and contortions. Ergot needed wet land to grow.
I think science would have saved salem because if the Ergot was the problem the doctors could've study the patients and how they acted insted of following the book that the doctors read.

Ronahn said...

Science and common sense could have stopped the witch trails from happening.
Science could also help prevent some types of sicknesses. If they had a lie detector to test the girls with...?

SammyG said...

i think science could have saved salem for 1 main reason. if science had been around then people could have proven that it was the fungus called, ergot, that was making the girls have strange actions.

something that could relate could be with the weather. the weather was creating a fungus.

kyleL said...

i think science could save Salem because of how they grow their food. and medicine:p

of medicine and they way they take care of people nowa dayz. and the way they grow there food!!! <33333333

i think the witch trials could have been stoped with science . i think that rain will have something to do with science

Emily M

It was connected by the bad food that they were eating it was called ergot it made the girls have the same actions as what would happen if they were bewitched

Daleandnessarepurple said...

They could use lots of science and not have had witch trails

So with science back in the day would ovisouly safe all the people who got accused of witchcraft or considering scientifcly they don't even exsist if science came back in the day. :) <3

Sabrina D:) said...

I am sure that they science could have prevented the trials from happening. like back then they didn't have any mental hospitals for the people who were accusing people for no reason . They also didn't have any test to see if they were lying. oh and they didn't have any bloods test to see if they were witches.

Emily G. ;-) said...

Yes, I think science could have saved Salem because the way they accused people to be witches is not good.

Skye W said...

I do think that science could have saved the Salem which trails because if we knew whet we know now none of it would have happened. In Salem I think that there might be some kind of erosion in Salem.

Do you think science could have saved the Salem from the witch trials ?(yes, because if science AND COMMON SENSE was around people would have been proven that it was just a rare case of food poisining from ergot. Because they grow plants and the plants that people would use to cook foods with a lot it would be commin for people to act like this.)

What else in on the Salem trip might relate to science in general or specifically what we have studied so far this year? (IDK..)

Erik C said...

The science of hanging and other forms of death and torture. Almost if not every part of the witch hysteria can now be explained with science; if they knew what we know now in the field of science the trials might not of happened.

Lucas T said...

I think that salem could of been saved with science because if they had more powerful medicines we could treat the symptoms of ergot.

Archer t said...

Science could save Salem because science can disprove witchcraft.
I think that there will be science in Salem because Salem witch hysteria could have been caused by the science of psychology.

matt c said...

science could of proved something but everybody would of still believed so it wouldn't of helped at all.we could see signs of weathering and ice wedging on our trip to Salem.

Grace B said...

the trials could have stopped the witch trials because if they'd actually used it they'd realize that those girls just had food poisoning and that those innocent women had nothing to do with them.
Also, I don't think there is anything specific we've done in science that brings up Salem

Cameron T. said...

Science can be connected to Salem because if they had as much information as we do then most of the executions would have been stopped. This would mean that not as many people would have died. We might see some thing about their religion.

Liz N. :) said...

Yes I do think science could have saved the hundreds of people who died because of the salem witch trials, I mean if you think about it those girls had no proof at all that the people they accused were "witches" because really those girls were just complete liars in my opinion!

Something else that might relate to science might be is.......... IDK

Kasey G. said...

Science could have saved Salem. It was the lack knowledge of medical science that actually started this whole thing. When the doctor went and examined the "bewitched" girls, he could not find what ailed them in his book and declared that it must be witchcraft. If they had known more about medical science innocent lives would have been saved. Also, if they had known about ergot they wouldn't have ever had the witch trials.

Aaron R said...

I think that if there had been more science in 1692 the salem witch trials might not have happened. I dont think that the desease could have actually been real because that other people werent infected.

Connor P said...

Yes I do believe that science and logic would have saved the 19 wronged witches who were killed.

Sarah M said...

I think that science could have saved Salem from the witch trials. I think that we will see erosion in Salem.

Ian C. said...

I think that science could have saved the witch trials because the people would have realized that the wheat is killing the girls and they would have stopped eating it.

Spencer P. Shields said...

The science of salem can be what makes the ergot grow. The science of hanging people can come into physics. If they had the scinetific knowledge that we have today they probably would've found out that it was just a game played by the girls. Like in the movie Three Sovereigns for Sarah

Holly J said...

I don't think science would be able to save the witch trials but I think it could help them a lot. I don't know how we can connect what we've learned with the Salem Witch Trials.

Nick M. said...

I don't think that science could have saved the witch trials, because in the time that they were doing it, they didn't have the technology and experience to understand these such things. If they did, then yes, it very well could have. If the people in Salem in the 17th century knew all the stuff we do now, everything would've changed. People would have been healthier, lived longer, and would have been happier. They would know all about erosion and how things are created and so on so forth. But people would possibly stop believing in God though.

Tanner McClure said...

Science defenitly could have saved Salem from ever having witch trials. I mean science is an incredibal thing and can prove pretty much anything with the right amount of time.

Sara H said...

Yes, I think science could ave saved Salem because if they had the technology at the time they could have discovered something else was affecting the girls and not witchcraft. Like they could have seen the fungi growing on the rye.

Science that could relate to Salem could be weathering because when the grave diggers dug the graves for the bodies of the accused witches, that is an example of mechanical weathering.

Isaiahp said...

Science could have saved salem because Witches supposedly can fly, but with science like gravity which is what holds everything down.

i think science could have saved salem if they had examend what the girls were eating like the ergot on the wheat and maybe tommorw we'll learn if they used some sourt of science in the salem witch trials

I don't think science would be able to save the people being eccused but I don't it could help them at all. I don't know how we can connect what we've learned with the Salem Witch Trials.

Traciee:) T said...

1.I can connect because i has to do with weather when we get there it might be rainy.

2.Yes science could have helped them because for the medical issues we need medican for them being ill.

3.Witches were killed for no reason.

Anonymous said...

Science would of stopped the salem witch trials from ever occuring in the first place. what made the the 8 young girls spazz out was ergot, it caused muscle spasms, delusions, seizures & contortions.

Bayli L. (: said...

1.It can relate to science because of the way people were accused they didnt relate science to the tests.
2. Yesss. Because they would have realized they were being idiots for accusing people for whitch craft.:)
