Rocky Mountains
The Rockies and the Appalachian Mountains are at different stages of erosion. Do you think the Appalachian Mountains once looked like the Rockies? What do you think will eventually happen to the Appalachians and the Rockies as erosional forces work on the mountain ranges?

I think that the appalatians are a lot older because they are a lot smaller than the Rockies, meaning that they have endured more erosion.
THE ROCKIES ARE MORE OLDER BECAUSE THEY ARE WIDER AND BIGGER MEANING THEY HAD MORE TIME TO GROW.
Yes I do think that they once looked like the Rockies but over years erosion started to break them down.I think that eventually they will be broken down into different heights and shapes.
I think that the Rockies and the Appalachians were the same height when the last glacier happened.

In the near future the appalation mountains will be eroded into hills and the rockys would look like the appalation mountains today. and the appalation mountains more than likely looked like the rockys.but because the appalation mountains are older they became smaller than the rockys.

I think the app. were used to be like the rockies cause' they are more like hills instead of mountains. but the rockies will get smaller ove time like the app.

I think that the Appalachin mountains are alot younger so they are bigger and the Rockies are older so they are smaller they and both will get smaller over time.

I do think that the Appalachian Mountains once looked like the Rockie Mountains because when the mountains are younger they have more of a point but, once they get older they start to brake down and get smaller. When it rains more and more of the mountain will start to erode. Also when you have gravity the gravity pulls the glaciers down the side of the mountain pulling a lot of different things with them.
They both might end up on the same stage eventually but I can`t tell know. Maybe we will be able see them at their stages later.
I think that the Appalachians looked like the Rockies a long time ago, when they were new mountains. I do think that they'll look like each other when gravity and glaciers wear them down to small hills, but that won't be for a long time.
Yes I think the Appalachian once looked like the Rockie Mountains. After a while the both mountain ranges with be weathered and eroded so much they will just be hill and then when the hill weather they will be nothing!
It also is affected by their location, the type of animals that live on them, and climate.

I do think that the Appalachian mountains once looked like the Rockies. This is because the Appalachian mountains are very smooth and this is because of erosion. It is very well possible that they once had a point but were eroded causing their now round shape. Eventually the mountains will become hills due to erosion and eventually nothing, but the Appalachian mountains will become hills first due to the fact they are more eroded than the Rockies already. Also, this will not happen until several thousand, perhaps million years from now.

The reason the rocky mountains look different than the Appalachian mountains is because the rocky mountains are younger than the Appalachian mountains. Which means that when the mountains are younger they have pointier tips. So the Appalachian mountains have been eroded down to be shorter and rounder. I do think that the Appalachian mountains did once look like an actual mountain like the Rocky mountains but they are older so they have been being eroded longer so now the Appalachian Mountains look more like valleys than mountains

The Appalachians were formed before the Rockies and therefore, the Appalachians have had more time to erode so yes, I think millions of years ago, the Appalachians looked like the Rockies. In the future, the Appalachians will probably be small hills and the Rockies, rolling mountains.

Yes, the Appalachian mountains and the Rocky mountains are at different stages of erosion. That is probably for many different reasons. Age, weather, and climate play huge parts in what the mountains look like. Wind, rain, all aspects of weather affect what the mountains look like. In all of these theories keep in mind that I'm thinking that the Appalachian Mountains are SOOOO much older than the Rocky Mountains. But on another subject, think about the Great Plains in the mid U.S. Those plains, millions and millions of years ago, might have one day been mountains. Maybe they will be in the future. Also, the Rocky Mountains or even the Himalayas might have been plains millions and millions of years ago. Now back to the subject of Appalachian and Rocky Mountains. The Appalachian Mountains are obviously much older than the Rocky Mountains. That is why the Rockie's are so tall and jagged, but the Appalachian Mountains are all slopey and round. They are definitely NOT in the same stages of erosion. They Appalachian mountains are much farther in than the Rockies. In fact, the Rocky Mountains are MUCH younger than the Appalachian Mountains. I think eventually both mountain ranges will become plains, but my guess is that unless the erosion levels differ then the Appalachian Mountains will become a plain much sooner than the Rocky Mountains. On another point I DEFINITELY think that the Appalachian once looked like the Rockies. Well, not exactly the Rockies, as they were in a different part of the country and no two things are exactly the same as anything else. And maybe even when the Appalachian Mountains looked like the Rockies, there were different animals living in the area.
yes the appalachian mountains mountains were as big as the rockies in fact, they were much bigger. they were actually much bigger than the himalayas thousands or maybe millions of years ago. then as the weathering worked on the appalachian mountains they were weathered down to where they are now. this happened over a period of time. The rockies are considered a fairly small mountain compared to the himalayas and if the old appalachian mountains and the himalayas were compared the himalayas would be considered a small mountain. the appalachian mountains are the oldest mountains in the world the rockies are fairly young but the himalayas are the youngest mountain range in the world. you can tell this is true because they are the biggest, tallest, and highest mountains in the world and are still growing. the appalachians stopped growing thousands of years ago. The rockies are still growing as well as the himalayas. in thousands of years the appalachians will be just a bunch of hills and the rockies will either be about the size of the appalachians or the size of the himalayas.it could be either because since they are still growing, they could just keep on doing so, or weathering could become so severe that it would cause them to stop growing and *shrink* to become the size of the appalachians. the himalayas will probably also shrink to the size of the appalachians.
