Demolition Derby Science

Bode and Will went to a demolition derby.  They watched their favorite drivers Dylan and Shawn and Bailey smashed into each other. Using the correct vocabulary describe how you could observe Newton's three laws at the demolition derby.

  1. A few things I saw was that Newton's third law was mostly put into play because of action and reaction because cars are crashing and people are yelling which is action and reaction.

You can see the first law because when they drove into each other you can see that they are stopping because of an outside force. You can see his third law because when he hits into the other car the reaction is that he goes backwards because his third law is that for every action there is an equal reaction.

  3. in the demolition derby it uses all three laws by the cars hitting and the cars moving and the cars staying in on place.

  4. Newtons first law:(Object in motion stays in motion, object at rest stays at rest.) The drivers have to make the car move by pushing on the peddle and it doesn't stop unless you take your foot off the peddle.

Newtons second law:(Acceleration) The driver has to slow down and speed up to not crash or not be ing last place.

Newtons third law:(Act and react) If one driver crashes into another driver the one that was crashed into gets pushed back.

At a Demolition Derby, Newton's First Law is expressed by the cars driving. When you shut the engine off, the car stays at rest. When you turn it on, it turns on and the engine keeps running until you shut it off again. Newton's Second Law is the force of the object equals mass times acceleration so when the cars rev up their engines, and the driver pushes on the gas pedal. The mass of the car times the increase in speed the car goes equals the force the car is producing on the ground and various other cars. Newton's Third Law states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. When the cars smash into each other, they bump backwards because Dylan's car is pushing a force forward onto Bailey's car and vice versa. The force from both cars sends the cars the other way.

  8. You can see Newton's first Law of Motion because of Outside Forces Moving the Cars and you can see his Third Law of Motion because of the Action and Reaction of the Cars.

  9. You can see the first law because, they crash into eachother. Newton's 1st law - Objects will stay at rest or motion until acted on by force

  10. The first law when they crashed and they stopped. Also the third law because when they crashed they get a reaction or an action.

  11. You can see the first law, because the cars crashed into each other and they weren't moving until the drive pressed on the gas pedal, and object rest stays at rest unless force has act upon it.

  12. For the first law objects in motion stay in motion, objects at rest stay at rest then the car is being moved by the drivers and then the second law An object acted upon by a outside force accelerate in the direction of the force. The car will slow down, speed up and change position. for the last law It states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. When the cars collide thats when they third law happens.

  14. When the cars hit it makes damage and pushes the other car.

  15. Force by crashing cars into each other, velocity with the cars moving, and friction with the brakes.

  16. They're using force to smash the cars into each other and do damage.

  17. You can see the Newton's first law because, an outside force stopped the object in motion, you can also see Newton's third law because, after they crash they bounce off each other which is the equal reaction to the first action. Caelen is a beast. And that's all

  22. The first law would be the cars moving altogether. An outside force is moving the cars forward because without that it would just stay in one place without the outside force. The second law the car had an outside for and accelerated in that direction. The motor of the car pushes the car forward and from there the driver can deciede what direction the car goes in. The third law their are yelling and cheering which is an action and some reaction.

  24. Acceleration can be seen, The cars will continue to go unless stopped by an outside force, like another car, and finally, if one car has less mass than another, when they hit, the less mass car will go further.

  26. When they smash in each other, they would have momentum, velocity, and speed.

So if Dylan and Shawn crashed into each other the cars would roll back slowly since they had Momentum and they went really fast causing after they crash into each other because they crashed really hard so it just causes them to roll back as slow as they can

  32. The larger the mass the more damage. The more velocity the faster the car. I can also see how the force gets moved from one car to another.

Action reaction. The cars smash into each other, (an action,) and people yell and cheer and gasp, (reaction.)
