Will it overflow ?

You have a glass filled with ice cubes and water. What happens when the ice melts? Does the glass of water overflow? If the glass does not overflow with the melting ice, why then would sea levels rise with the melting of glaciers and arctic ice?

  1. It depends on how much water is in the glass.

  2. Sea levels overflow because some of those glaciers reside on land and melt into the water, making the sea levels rise.

  3. If it is full with ice and water like it is at the brim or just below the brim then it would probably over flow because when the ice melts it is gonna add more water.

  4. it depends on how much water is in the glass for it to overflow

  5. when the ice in the glass melts it evaporates

  6. yes and no, because if there is a lot of ice it will melt and overflow the water.

  7. The glass of water will not overflow when the ice melts, but sea levels rise with the melting of glaciers and arctic ice because it's on the side of the sea, so when it melts, it rises sea levels.

  8. When the ice melts it turns in to water and the water will over flow

If the ice in a glass full of water and ice melts, the water would most likely overflow. Sea levels could rise from the melting of glaciers and arctic ice.

  10. If there is too much water in the glass before the ice melts then it will overflow.

  11. When a glass filled with water overflows I think the water will overflow. If the glass doesn't over flow a good reason is because just like Ice cubs glaciers holds most of the water because it contains mostly water. The water insides the glacier melts on to the water

  12. If you have a glass of water with ice in it, it could overflow, but it depends who full it is. Look at the sea level and how it rises, with melting ice it makes more water.

  13. the sea levels rise because the glaciers are above the water and if they were under the water the water would stay the same.

  14. The ice in water wont make the water overflow because the ice will replace the water and when it melts it will turn into water and cant overflow. But with glaciers and ice they dont replace the water like ice cubes do.

  15. We know that the mass of liquid displaced by the floating ice equals the mass of the object. That's why the ice caps float on water. We also know that when an ice cube melts in a glass of water, the water level does not change as the melted water will occupy exactly the same amount of space which the ice under the water level previously occupied.

  16. When the Ice melts it creates more Water in the glass. The glass of Water could overflow but it also depends on how much Water and Ice is in the glass.Sea Levels rise with the melting of Glaciers and Arctic Ice because Ice is frozen Water and when it melts from the Heat from the Sun it turns into Water.

  17. the glass will overflow

  18. The sea levels rise because ice is frozen water ,and when ice melts it turns back to water .

  19. the glass will not overflow

  20. Well when the ice melts the glass will not overflow it will expand because when the ice melts it expands.

    ReplyDelete
  21. it will not over flow

    ReplyDelete
  22. The glass won't over flow because instead of over flowing it will expand.

    ReplyDelete
  23. No it will not.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The sea levels will rise because glaciers and artic ice will melt and add more water to the oceans and seas and cause the sea levels to rise.

    ReplyDelete
  25. the glass will not overflow, the only reason its to the brim is because the ice takes up space inside the glass, as the ice melts, the water will go down.

  26. sea leves is the same like the water

    ReplyDelete
  27. Because more water is being put into the SALT WATER. It also has to do with the gravitational pull of the earth.

  28. the sea levels rise because ice is frozen water

  30. Also when glaciers in the ocean melt that is because glaicers are bigger than ice cubes and the ocean is bigger than a glass of water

so when the glaciers melt the salt water is salty so the melt of the glaciers will stay on the top and its on land

    ReplyDelete
  32. if you have a glass of water and you fill it with ice it wiol not over flow when the it melts so if the ocean is full of ice it will over flow

    ReplyDelete
  33. No the water will not overflow, that's because the water in the glass evaporates and condensation happens. But the sea levels rise because of the glaciers out of the water(on land) melting into the water, that's what is causing the sea level to rise.

  34. no it will not becuse it will be evaprated and makeing clouds

    ReplyDelete
  35. If you puut ice in a cup of water and it melted it would probally over flow. But if the water level is low enouph in the beginning the level won't overflow. The sea level is rising becuase the ice is melting.

  36. The ice will evaporate, turning it into air. (This is a very short blog question. o_e)

  38. the ice expands

  40. The ice isn't in the ocean to start, it's on land.

    ReplyDelete
  41. the glass water will over flow but i think the if the earth had melting glaciers it would be different out come because different distribution.

    ReplyDelete
  42. it will stay the same cause water actuly expand when it turns into ice

    ReplyDelete
  43. the water wil stay at the same height even when the ice melts

    ReplyDelete
  44. the glass would not overflow because the ice would expand. Sea levels rise because they start out on land and then melt into the water.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Because sicencetist are makeing things up

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yes the liquid takes more room than a solid object.

    ReplyDelete
  47. when the ice in the glass melts it will not add water because the ice has its own space so it wont overflow.

    ReplyDelete
  48. ice is concentrated snow right? and snow is frozen water if the ice was to melt it would melt into a more water than what seems to be in it. evaporation is the only gonna slow it down and this also depends the season month temperature and place all these factors contribute to the the out come if one is different the end will be different not enough info the make a hypothesis.

  49. If there is ice melting it will produce more water causing sea levels to rise, but it depends how high the sea levels are.

  51. it wont over fow because when u have a glass with ice cubes flotting on top it just hard to explane but no it would not ....

  52. Like a glass of ice water. As it warms, the ice in the glass melts, but the total volume of water does not change. However, melting sea ice does contribute to climate change. That’s because white sea ice reflects the sun. So when it melts, the dark open ocean now absorbs sunlight and heats up, raising global temperatures, which in turn cause glaciers and ice sheets on land to melt further.

  53. The water level wont go up because the amount of water

    ReplyDelete
  54. The glass wouldn't over flow because the volume of the ice and the cup it wouldnt

  56. No because the ice cubes were all ready there to take up the space.

    ReplyDelete
  57. The glass won't over flow because instead of over flowing it will expand and grow.

    ReplyDelete
  58. it would not over flow and the sea is not a glass so it keeps riseing.

    ReplyDelete
  59. It will overflow

    ReplyDelete
  60. The water will not overflow because of the volume of the ice.

    ReplyDelete
  61. the water inside the glass does not increase, but it does expand, therefor, the glass may or may not overflow depending on how much water was in it originally. The same goes for melting arctic ice, but there is more space for it to spread out.

    ReplyDelete
  62. it depends on how much water is in the glass for it to overflow

    ReplyDelete
  63. Glaciers make the sea level rise because when it melts, the glaciers are bigger than ice cubes, so the are obviously going to make it rise, but we also have the high tide and low tide, but thats a whole different story for another time.

  64. it depends on how much water is in the glass for it to overflow

    ReplyDelete
  65. When the ice melts in an almost full cup of water, it will not overflow because the volume of the ice is larger than the output of water from that cube once it melts. This is because water expands when it freezes. Pertaining to sea levels, if you were to think the same like the cup, the difference is that the water output is coming from the land, not already from the sea. The melting of above ground glacial structures contributes to the rising sea levels, but the melting of the glaciers already floating in the sea do not.

    ReplyDelete
  66. It will not over flow because the volume of the ice will cause the water to rise and when it melts it will lower the amount of water because of how much space compared to the volume of the water to thee volume of the ice.

    ReplyDelete
  67. When the ice melts in the cup, the water level will go higher up because ice is just frozen water and when it melts, there will be more water in the cup.
