Distance. Distance is where a object moves from Point A to Point B counting how far they move to get there, and not the quickest route there, that would be displacement. Example: He took the greater distance to get to the same location.
A reference point can be anything as long as you can tell how far something moved compared to your reference point. For example; Lets say you have a kick ball and a basketball on the ground. Then you move the basketball to the other side of the kick ball. Then the kick ball would be your reference point.
