  45. First is reproduction. Reproduction is when an organism reproduces and makes more of its species. Obviously, this is important to a species moving forward. The organisms with more favorable traits survive and reproduce, making more of their traits, while those with unfavorable characteristics die off.

    Second is heredity. This is related closely to reproduction, in that it happens when two parents make reproduce. The traits they pass on to their young are hereditary and are only able to be passed on through reproduction. This, once again, makes it so organisms with favorable traits survive.

    Third is variations in characteristics. This is also rather important. Simply put, in a species without variation, there would be no natural selection. All of the organisms being the same is 1) impossible and 2) bad for a species.

    Lastly is variations in fitness. This is an organism's ability to reproduce as much as possible and pass on their traits. Organisms with favorable traits have high fitness levels!
