You may have notice animal tracks in the sand but, have you ever seen boulder tracks? If you ever go to the race track in Death Valley this is exactly what you will see. Rocks at the race track seem to move without any help at all.

Evidence that the rocks are moving are that there are a path behind them. My theory is that wind erosion is slowly moving these rocks, and because they are so heavy they leave a little trail behind them.

ReplyDeleteYou can already see the trails in the sand so that is the proof that it can actually happen. One thing I wonder is if the tracks happen because for some reason in stead of eroding first it is getting moves along by most likely by wind or other agents of erosion.

ReplyDeleteThe rocks in death valley are being moved, as you can see from the path they leave behind. Powerful wind most likely moved it. There is little to no foliage in the desert heat of death valley, so that allows powerful blasts of wind to go through death valley without being buffered.

One theory is that the speed of the car makes wind and moves the rock another theory is that when it rains enough it makes mud which makes the ground slippery and the rocks slide.

If you look at the picture, the ground shows evidence that there is a lot of deflation, which means there are high winds that could push these boulders along the slippery rocks worn down by abrasion. Gravity could also be involved in these boulder movements, pulling them downhill.
