Older versions of panels are quite large, and are not quite the greatest option if you don't want huge panels atop your house. The energy from the panels is held in batteries, and they constantly need to be checked and changed in order to insure collection of energy. The new technology (the glass panes that capture energy) needs to become more mainstream in order to lower prices, and battery technology needs to be fixed.
