They did believe in witches in Salem because girls were pretending that others people were hurting them and saying they saw there specter doing things in the night. There evidence was not scientific because the only thing they had of proof was the girls that said there were witches.
I don't think their witch trials are scientific at all because it's all up to the girls on what happens if she goes into an fit then she is touch and she stops because she doesn't like that person so she would stop and make sure she would or he would be executed. So no their evidence was scientific.
