Ergot or Not

What does the evidence show? Do think that there is more evidence that ergot had a role or did not have a role in the Salem witch trials?

  1. There actually might be because there should be more evidence.

  6. I do think their was ergot in the salem witch trials because their collations not only did they make them up but it did have something to do in it because they had only to eat meat and rye and when they ate rye they had they callvotions.

  7. The evidence shows little small black stubs on rye. There is more evidence that ergot did have role in the salem witch trials. Ergot was pretty much a substance that grows on grain. Which means it acts like a poison to the mind. That is my evidence.

  8. The evidence showed that the Salem witch trials could have been fuelled by Ergot. I think that Ergot did have a role in the Salem witch trials.

  9. From my research I learned the Ergot could have been tied to the Salem Witch Trials.

  10. The evidence shows that the girls might have been exposed to the Ergot. I dont think there was more evidence to go with the trials.

Egrot could have caused the Salem Witch Trials because Egrot can cause people to hallucinate. They could have thought people were witches from the poisoning.

  12. Ergot might have been used to killl the witches.

    ReplyDelete
  13. the evidence is that ergot might of been in salem to some people.

  14. Yea I think there is more evidence to show that ergot had a role or not had a role in the witch trial.

  15. i think that they had it back them because they had nothing to spry the crop and kill the disease.

  16. During the Salem witch trials Ergot was a poisonous disease that grew on Rye.People in Salem had eaten the Ergot and got Hallucinations.

  17. The evidence shows that the girls might have been exposed to the Ergot. I don't think there was more evidence to go with the trials.

  18. Evidence shows that ergot was the cause for this, ergot in a food poisoning, and as seen in my presentation, the witch hysteria was a result of food poisoning, most likely from ergot.

  19. yes I think that ergot made them hallucinate and do all the thing that they did.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think that it was from the ergot and i think there is more evidence.

    ReplyDelete
  21. i think that it was not ergot because once the trial was done then every thing went away. There was not all of the symptoms so if they had ergot then they would have all of the symptoms.

  22. The evidence shows that the girls involved with the Salem witch trials could have been exposed to the ergot. And I think that it did have a role in the Salem witch trials.

ergot might have to be used to kill the witches of salem

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think that it is Ergot that is making them hallucinated.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It shows that wheat is moldy and they still eat it. It can also give them Ergot.

    ReplyDelete
  26. evidence showed that ergot and food poisoning could have been a big roll in the Salem which trials

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think it may or may not be it depends on the symptoms.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think there is enough edvidince to prove that. yes I think that Ergot made them hallucinate and commit the sins they did.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think ergot could be used to kill the witches

  30. I think it was Ergot because when I was doing Checklist 6 about Salem, I came to this site and I found something about Ergot and it said "The farmland conditions, especially in the Western part of Salem Village, match perfectly with where the fungus, and ergot can grow".

  31. yes i think is was ergot

    ReplyDelete
  32. they cuold use it to kill the witchis

    ReplyDelete
  33. The evidence shows that it may have been ergot poising but something that goes against this is the girls were able to stop and control their bodies. So my opinion is there was no ergot poising.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think that ergot had to do with the witch trials because all the evidence looks true.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I do not think it was ergot it was just little girls being stupid

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think it started as Ergot poison but then other people started faking it so they could kill people they didn't like. Because I don't think all those people had it and also I thing Mrs.Anderson said something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think the ergot did have a role because the symptoms of ergot poisoning are the same as the symptoms of bewitchment.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think that there is more evidence that ergot had a role in the Salem witch trials.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I personally think that theres equal parts of evidence for both sides of the case. But I think that it could of been a role in the witch trials and couldn't of because it said that Ergot grew on rye and the people ate rye for bread and boom. And plus Ergot could be making them hallucinate and do weird things.

  40. i think there is more than what we know on the salem witch trials.

It could of for some of the people but also some were acting

  42. I personally do not think that The Witch Trails were caused by Ergot. The reason is because that there was no evidence, so we can't be sure. There is a slight possibility that it was, but personally, I think that the girls were just playing around, and that they were physically pretending to have convulsions, and feel pins and pinches.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think the Ergot did have a role in the Salem witch trials. The reason is because, because they girls did thing they would never normally do.

  44. Me: (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ THERE IS NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE!

Mr. Ruby: Abby. Put.. The table... Back...

    Me: ┬─┬ ノ( ゜-゜ノ)

    Table: ┬─┬ ︵ /(.□. \

But really, I don't believe it's Ergot. Or, natures LSD. The girls were little, it should of killed them! And, why did people join in? The girls were just evil little girls. My mom may call ME evil, but I don't get thousands of women hung!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think that ergot did play a part in the witch trials, because the symptoms are similar to what the girls said was happening to them.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think Ergot can be used to kill witches because the name sounds like it would and if it is I guess the people who are asking people if they are witches or not is having those for the witches to touch or eat the Ergot and they think it will kill the witches if Ergot doesn't do that than Ergot can't really do anything

    ReplyDelete
  47. i think it was ergot because the girls must of got it and use it to kill or get the people in jail.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I believe ergot did poison people but i can,t find any evidence that the girls where infected because no limbs where eroding.

    ReplyDelete
  49. the egrot was an effect to the people in the dungings but i think that the two girls were a bit over dramatic and was accusing peope of being a witch when they wernt i think that they did that cause they thought it was funny but that is really sick and cruel and who would do such a thing. (Thats my theory)

  50. I believe that egrot made people think that the witches were putting them there so they would get sick. and they would let the witches out.

    ReplyDelete
  51. During the Salem witch trials Ergot was a poisonous disease that grew on Rye. People in Salem had eaten the Ergot and got Hallucinations And I think thats why.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think Ergot did poison people because its a fungus and fungi is usually bad if you consume it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think that ergot may have had a role in the mass hysteria of the witch trials because it caused hallucinations and convulsions.

    ReplyDelete
  54. the evidence is that ergot might of been in salem to some people.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think that it could have been the cause of the salem witch trials but it very well could have not.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think that there is more evidence of ergot having a role in the salem which trials because errgot caused people to have hilusonations

    ReplyDelete
  57. it shows that egrot had a role in the witch trials

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think there is more evidence that Ergot had a role on the things that happened to the people.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think That with Egrot it made people think that a witch was doing it to them. I think this mostly because Ergot could make a person look like there going crazy so ya.

  60. Ergot of Rye is a plant disease that is caused by the fungus Claviceps purpurea. The so-called ergot that replaces the grain of the rye is a dark, purplish sclerotium (Figs. 1a-b), from which the sexual stage (Fig. 2a-b), of the lifecycle will form after over wintering. The sexual stage consists of stroma in which the asci and ascospores are produced. Although the ergot is far different in appearance than the true grain, its occurrence was so common that it was thought to be part of the rye plant, until the 1850's, when the true nature of the ergot was understood. Although the common name indicates that this fungus is a disease of rye, it also can infect several other grains, with rye being the most common host for this species. It is the ergot stage of the fungus that contains a storehouse of various compounds that have been useful as pharmaceutical drugs as well as mycotoxins that can be fatal when consumed. The proportion of the compounds produced will vary within the species. Thus, the victim that has lived through ergot poisoning once may experience different symptoms if they were unfortunate enough to consume ergot for a second time. This species was also the original source from which LSD was first isolated. It is believed that symptoms of ergotism have been recorded since the middle ages and possibly even as far back as ancient Greece.

  61. I think there needs to be more evidence.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think it kinda did kinda not because some of the girls could of been faking. Or some girls are telling the truth and seeing yellow birds.

    ReplyDelete
  63. it could have been ergot but if it was the kids should have died or goten very sick

    ReplyDelete
  64. I believe that it may or may not have had a role. We have no real way to know, and until we can know, my opinion will stay the same. It could have a role, but once you say the supporting evidence for that side, the other side has evidence that contradicts it.

    ReplyDelete
  65. there is no evidence

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think there is more evidence the Ergot had a role in what happened in the witch trials.

Well, ergot is also known to shrivel up the limbs. did any of that happen?

    ReplyDelete
  68. I think Ergot can be used to kill witches because Ergot can go bad and people can get really sick from it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. i think that ergot played a role because they all had to grow wheat and that where came from and it made people really sick and all the Symptoms from ergot matched the one from the witch trial when the girl said they were bewitched

    ReplyDelete
  70. I think that there is more evidence that ergot had a role in the salem with trials.
