Two Types

What are the two types of weathering? Please give a specific example of at least one type.

  1. Weathering is the breakdown of rocks at the Earth's surface, by the action of rainwater, extremes of temperature, and biological activity. It does not involve the removal of rock material.

  2. Weathering breaks down and loosens the surface minerals of rock so they can be transported away by agents of erosion such as water wind and ice. There are two types of weathering mechanical and chemical. Mechanical weathering is the disintegration of rock into smaller and smaller fragments.

Chemical weathering is the erosion or disintegration of rocks building up materiel.

  11. The two types of weathering are, mechanical and chemical. If a rock is under a tree and the tree grows, after a while the roots will break the rock, which is mechanical.

Mechanical Weathering is when an animal or plant cause the rock to break apart. Chemical Weathering is when water or wind cause the rock to break apart over a long period of time.

Mechanical weathering is when rocks crash into each other, causing the large rocks to break into smaller rocks. Like, when Mr. Ruby showed us. He smashed two rocks together and pieces chipped off.

  71. Mechanical and chemical weathering are to types or weather break rocks bye like rain moves the dirt from under rocks and the rock moves and breaks

  72. 2types of weathering are mechanical & chemical for example rocks break down from the impact from many things most likely from water putting pressure on the rock

  75. Mechanical weathering is the process of breaking big rocks into little ones. This process usually happens near the surface of the planet. Temperature also affects the land. The cool nights and hot days always cause things to expand and contract. That movement can cause rocks to crack and break apart.

  82. Chemical and Mechanical weathering. Mechanical weathering occurs when rocks are broken apart physically. Chemical weathering occurs when chemical reactions dissolve the minerals in the rock or change them into different minerals.
