  2. A good index fossil, can be fossils with a Relatively short period of time. Also, index fossils can be Abundant, very common and easy to find. Another characteristic of a good index fossil is they are widely spread out, and can be found in many different places around their environments. And the fossils must be easily identified, its helpful to be easily identified for paleontologists.
